Term 1 Overview of Phys. Ed.

Term 1 Overview of PHYS. ED
The Term will have 2 focus areas, each lasting about 5 weeks
Reception years
Focus
  1. Establishment of procedures for safe and efficient lessons in Phys. Ed
  • Listening to instructions
  • Understanding boundaries
  • Spacing
  • Signals for commencing and ending activities
  • Playing safely - this will be achieved though active play and minor games with various equipment.
     2. Sports day skills for the J.P. sports day
Years 1 and 2
Focus
  1. Building on the learning from the reception years through the commencement of the Fundamental Movements Skill of Ball Control with a variety of balls
  • Bouncing and catching a ball with two hands
  • Continuous bouncing with one hand
  • Dribbling a ball with the feet
      This will be achieved through active play and minor games individually, in pairs and in groups.
     2. Sports day skills for the J.P. sports day
Years 3 and 4
Focus
  1. Building on previous learning in movement to help students develop greater proficiency across the range of fundamental movement skills in modified sports. This term the modified sport is floor hockey
  • Pushing a ball with a unihoc stick, with the correct grip
  • Tracking and trapping a moving ball
  • Dribbling a floor hockey ball with control
  • Participating in small group games
  • Playing fairly and safely
     2. Sports day skills for the Primary sports day
Years 4/5, 5 and 6
Focus
  1. Students refine and further develop a wide range of fundamental movement skills in more complex movement patterns and situations by learning about volleyball
  • Digging a ball
  • Setting a ball
  • Serving a ball
  • Participating in games as a team
  • Confidently demonstrating the above skills
  • Understanding the rules
  • Playing fairly
    2. Sports day skills for the Primary sports day
